淳化元宝于北宋太宗淳化元年（公元990年）开始铸造，相传钱文为宋太宗赵光义手书，即所谓的"御书体"。钱面顺时针旋读，钱背一般为光背，但在1988年村，我国发现了钱背为佛像的特殊"淳化元宝"。

钱币正面刻书"淳化元宝"四字，笔法隽永流连，十分洒脱。钱背造像的解说向来多有纷纭，坐像多认系观音，立像则有善财童子及韦驮等说。

The four characters of "Chunhua Yuanbao" are engraved on the obverse of the coin. The strokes are meaningful and free. There are many different interpretations of Qian Bei's statues, such as Guanyin, the son of good fortune and Wei Tuo.

钱币背面佛像神态逼真，栩栩如生。右边为手持莲花，坐于莲花宝座之上的观音菩萨，宝座底下祥云缠绕。左边为头上结发，双手合十，身体微向右侧站立，在莲花瓣座上的善财童子，当为一幅童子拜观童的画面。

The Buddha on the back of the coin is lifelike. On the right is the Avalokitesvara who holds the lotus and sits on the lotus throne, under which the auspicious clouds are twining. On the left is the hair tied on the head, hands folded, body standing slightly to the right. The good fortune boy on the lotus petal seat should be a picture of the boy worshiping the child.

淳化元宝背面所铸的两尊佛像，均有莲花宝座和祥云依托，充分突显出宋朝对佛教的重视，对佛教的信奉自古至今都存在，敬仰佛祖，教人慈爱善良，这是值得收藏的原因之一。
